The salon had said yes over the phone. Then came the fine-tooth comb on dry hair and the suggestion to straighten it "so they could see better". Here are five salons in Toulouse where you'll be taken seriously.
The city has some real options, run by teams that work with tight textures all week, from the city center to northern Toulouse. Here are five salons in Toulouse we recommend, with their verified address, what each does best, the type of client it's best suited for, and a section to help you choose between them: a good salon for loose curls isn't necessarily a good salon for very dense coily hair. One of the five is one of our partner studios, and we've noted that in the list. For maintenance between appointments, our step-by-step tutorial details the six steps of the Rituel Texture®. For another city, our coily hair stylist directory lists our partner salons.
Two types of salons in Toulouse

Before comparing the salons, it's worth understanding how the options in Toulouse are divided, because this will help you avoid many disappointing appointments. Two types of salons coexist in the city, and they don't offer the same thing.
On one hand, there are curl salons, often located in the city center between the Capitole and the Saint-Étienne district. They come from the world of wavy and curly hair, they diagnose, they cut section by section, and they explain. Their limits are well known: the tighter the texture, the more it becomes a question of whether they work with it every day or just occasionally. On the other hand, there are Afro and Caribbean salons, clustered around rue Maurice Fonvieille and rue de la République, where you'll find expertise, protective styles, and experience with very dense hair, sometimes with a menu focused more on weaves and relaxers than on hair care.
The best salons in the city are those that draw from both: a diagnosis and structured cut on one hand, and knowledge of tight textures on the other. This is the combination we looked for in the following selection.
When you don't know much about it, you might imagine that hairdressers refuse coily hair out of spite. In my experience, I've mostly met professionals who were at a loss: they had never worked with this type of hair and didn't know where to start. Those who have agreed to relearn the techniques are doing very well, and they're the ones you should look for.
Ghana Elin, founderThe five salons listed below were selected based on this criterion, and their contact details were re-verified at the end of September 2026 on the salons' websites and booking pages. They are not alike, and that's intentional. For questions to ask regardless of the city, see our article on how to find a good coily hair stylist.
Salon 1L'Incontournable Barbershop, northern Toulouse
71 rue Adolphe Coll, 31300 Toulouse, Tuesday to Saturday
This is the most explicit salon in the city about what it knows how to do: the salon advertises a space reserved for textured hair, from wavy to coily, and welcomes both women and men. The word "coily" is clearly stated, which is still rare and saves you the evaluation phone call.
We recommend it first to the men in the family and to children: it's one of the few places in Toulouse where a man with coily hair will be offered something other than a clipper cut, and where a child can be welcomed without their texture being discovered at the time of washing. The salon is located in the north of the city, outside the city center, and appointments can only be booked online: the salon itself states that it does not take any over the phone.
Salon 2Revolucion, central Toulouse
16 rue Maury, 31000 Toulouse, Monday to Saturday
Revolucion summarizes its approach in one sentence, and it's clear: textured hair, from wavy to coily, is the salon's obsession. Rémy Fournier, who runs it, has developed his own method of cutting and styling for these textures, and the team starts with an analysis of the hair fiber, density, and behavior before cutting anything.
This is the salon we recommend if you're coming from an unsuitable cut and want to understand what happened, or if you're unsure about what shape to give dense hair. They explain a lot, which is better than a result that's impossible to reproduce the next morning. The salon is right in the city center, just a stone's throw from the Capitole, and is often fully booked: book early, especially for a Saturday.
Salon 3La Petite Vic, Fonderie district
13 rue de la Fonderie, 31000 Toulouse, Monday to Friday
Victoria welcomes all hair types with the same level of care, and offers separate packages depending on whether the hair is straight, curly, coily, or coily. It's a detail that says a lot: a salon that plans different time and pricing for a tight texture is a salon that knows what that texture requires.
Its specialty is gentle, plant-based coloring on coily hair, a combination that is not widely available. Coloring a coily fiber makes it more porous and changes the way it retains water; a salon that colors without anticipating this will deliver a beautiful color on lengths that will break off a few months later. We therefore recommend it to those who want color without giving up the health of their ends, and to them first. The salon is closed on weekends, which means you need to plan ahead.
Salon 4La Belle Boucle Studio, rue Sainte-Ursule
13 rue Sainte-Ursule, 31000 Toulouse, Monday to Saturday
This Toulouse studio is one of our partner studios: our treatments are offered there, and we know how they work. It's a long-term partnership, not a seasonal listing. It operates like the other nine in the chain, with a consultation shop where you can enter without an appointment and try products on your own hair, and an adjoining salon that welcomes clients by appointment.
The appointment begins with an observation period, with the hair as it is, before any time at the sink, and the cut is done on dry hair when the texture requires it. This is the salon we recommend for a first appointment, when you don't yet know how to name what you need, because observation precedes the service. See our profile of La Belle Boucle studios, which details the course of a visit. One reservation for a tight texture: the drying ends with a diffuser, a finishing technique made for curls and rarely justified on coily hair.
Salon 5Fernando Style, rue Maurice Fonvieille
14 rue Maurice Fonvieille, 31000 Toulouse, every day
Fernando Style is one of the historic salons in the neighborhood, in the heart of the small cluster of Afro and Caribbean salons in central Toulouse. The salon has been working with textured hair for a long time, seven days a week, with a menu focused on protective styles: cornrows, braids, locks, and lock maintenance.
We recommend it for a neat installation, when you are first looking for a hairstyle and a hand accustomed to very dense hair, rather than a diagnosis and a structured cut. Two clarifications before booking. The menu also includes weaves, straightening, and relaxers, which we do not recommend for coily hair: clearly state what you are looking for. And remember that a cut on coily hair is done on dry hair; if you want a structured cut in addition to the installation, ask during the appointment.
Which one to choose, depending on what you're looking for
These five salons are serious, they simply serve different needs. Here is how we would choose in your place.
If you want a salon that works with us, it's La Belle Boucle on rue Sainte-Ursule: our treatments are offered there, and you can try them before taking them home. If you're coming from a bad cut and want to understand first, Revolucion. If you want color, La Petite Vic, for plant-based coloring on coily fiber. If you are looking for a protective style and a safe hand with very dense hair, Fernando Style. If the appointment is for a man or a child, L'Incontournable Barbershop.
And to choose between two equally recommendable salons: choose the one that asks the most questions before touching anything. No online review is worth this test, and it only costs a phone call.
No salon in Toulouse currently offers the full Rituel Texture® on its menu. If you want to experience it in a salon, with the hair diagnosis followed by the six steps, it is reserved for the Les Ateliers Crépus location in Paris in the 11th arrondissement: see the page of the Les Ateliers Crépus Salon Experience. Many clients in Occitanie book it as a day trip, and it's worth considering it when booking a train.
Preparing for your appointment

Three questions are enough, over the phone or in a message, to know if they are really expecting you: the time planned for the service, the existence of a diagnosis before any time at the sink, and the way the salon proceeds with detangling. On this last point, a vague answer is the most reliable sign that you should look elsewhere.
The rest is decided at the time of booking, and that's where misunderstandings arise. A salon in Toulouse that advertises "curly hair" often understands "wavy to curly", and discovers your density at the time of washing. It's better to state it clearly, rather than letting them guess.
What is best to clarify when booking
- Your texture in full: coily hair, not just "curly".
- What you are looking for: a treatment, a structured cut, an installation, a color.
- Your last chemical treatment, even if it was a long time ago: coloring, straightening, or relaxing.
- The time you have available, and the time the salon estimates is necessary.
- The presence of a child, which changes the time slot and the way of proceeding.
When the day comes, keep your hair as you usually wear it, unless instructed otherwise: this is the only way for the hairdresser to see how the fiber really behaves. And plan ahead, without an appointment right after, because a complete treatment with a cut and styling takes hours.
