Rushed mornings: an express routine for your curly hair in eight minutes

Femme qui se coiffe devant le miroir, routine express cheveux crépus

Seven-oh-five, the alarm has gone off twice, you have eight minutes left. In front of the mirror, the question isn't what hairstyle to do, but whether your hair will cooperate. And that was decided the day before.

It's the only good news of rushed mornings, and it changes everything. A quick morning isn't won in front of the mirror: it's prepared during the five minutes before bed and, even further back, during the weekend Rituel Texture®. Here is how to get through a week without spending more than two minutes in the morning, and the two morning habits that cost the most. Our step-by-step tutorial details the six steps.

3evening steps that decide the morning

After a full routine, my clients tell me that the hydration lasts for several days. That's what strikes me when they come back: in the morning, they have nothing to wet. Everything has been done, all that's left is to style.

The morning is decided the night before

The five minutes before bed are worth fifteen minutes in the morning: that's the only calculation that matters.

Three steps in the evening are enough to eliminate the difficulty of the next day. The first is to undo the hairstyle of the day, braid, bun or twists, strand by strand and without pulling. It takes one minute, and that's already half the work: hair left tight all night detangles twice as slowly.

The second is to put back a little of La Crème Coiffante, focusing on the ends, without putting too much. It's the only evening product, and it replaces the misting, the serum and the oil that many pile on out of habit. The comb only comes out if the hair is really tangled, which happens rather at the end of the week. The rest of the time, fingers are enough.

The third is protection: six tight braids on themselves, never at the root, which lock the hydration in the length. They are tied with a silk scrunchie, or tied under a silk scarf, on a silk pillowcase. These braids are both the protection of the night and the hairstyle of the next day: undone upon waking, they give soft waves. See our night hairstyles.

The two habits to give up

Two very common steps cost time in the morning, and length at the end of the month. Giving them up saves more minutes than any styling trick.

The first is the water spray. It provides immediate freshness, and that's what makes it difficult to give up: we think we are rehydrating, when we are only wetting. Wetting your hair every morning ends up making the fiber more porous. It drinks quickly, loses quickly, and demands a little more water every day. Hydration is not redone in the morning: it is won at the full Rituel Texture®, every seven to ten days, and is then maintained with La Crème Coiffante. If an area really pulls, a small amount of warmed cream between the palms is enough. Without water.

The second is the morning comb. What breaks curly hair is not the dry detangling: it's the comb passed over a dry and bare hair, without anything to make it slide. Detangling with the Chadian finger, with fingers and on dry hair, is precisely step 01 of the Rituel Texture®, and it is very well practiced in the morning on a small area: the fingers feel the knot before tightening it. The comb, on the other hand, comes at step 04, when the hair is coated with mask and nothing catches. Our detangling method details these two times.

In the morning, fingers do the work. The comb waits to have mask in front of it.

The short formatThirty seconds, when you're already late

There are mornings when the only question is to leave. A silk scarf, tied on low gathered hair, covers everything, is chosen like a garment and protects the fiber all day. A wide headband does the same work on a low bun, and catches up with roots that are waiting for the next wash.

These two solutions are nothing like a last resort. A day under a scarf is a day without collar friction, without wind and without manipulation: your hair is better off than under a hairstyle done in a hurry.

The common formatTwo minutes, for an ordinary morning

Three quick hairstyles on curly hair: puff, flat braids and low bun
The puff, the braids kept as they are or the half-up: three possible outings from the same night hairstyle.

It's the most frequent format, and the one that deserves to be repeated until it becomes automatic. We undo the braids of the night one by one, separate with the fingertips to open the volume, and choose.

The puff gathers everything in height or on the nape, with a wide elastic or a ribbon; the volume is adjusted with the fingers. Avoid thin elastics, which cut the fiber where they tighten. The half-up ties the upper half and leaves the rest free. The braids of the night, finally, can stay in place and become the hairstyle of the day: it's the only option that requires zero steps.

A little plant gel on the contours, aloe or flax, gives the clean look that makes a two-minute hairstyle look like a thought-out hairstyle. A hazelnut is enough, on the frontal line only.

The catch-up formatFive minutes, when the night before was forgotten

It happens, and it's not serious, provided you don't compensate with water. Start by separating into four sections, then detangle each with fingers, from the ends to the roots, without forcing. Then warm a hazelnut of La Crème Coiffante between the palms and work it section by section: it gives back the slip to a fiber that spent the night free, and it's this slip, not water, that allows styling without breakage.

Redo two or three large twists, or a low bun rolled on itself. On an unprepared material, the simplest hairstyle is the one that lasts the longest.

And if the hair really resists the fingers, don't force it. Tie a scarf, leave, and come back in the evening with the necessary time: a detangling done in a hurry always costs more than a detangling postponed by twelve hours.

How the week unfolds

A week is not the same from one end to the other, and that's normal. The two or three days following the full routine are the simplest: the fiber is soft, the braids of the evening are redone in three minutes, and the morning hairstyle holds on its own.

In the middle of the week, the roots start to tighten and the ends to look for each other. That's where La Crème Coiffante of the evening becomes really useful, and where the gathered hairstyles, low bun, twists, flat braids, take over. It's not a sign of neglect, it's the normal rhythm of curly hair between two routines.

In the last days, the temptation to wet everything again is the strongest, and it's the time to resist it. A scarf, a headband or a protective hairstyle holds until the weekend. The next routine will reset everything, and it will do it better than a spray bottle.

Bringing morning time down to zero

Three decisions eliminate the morning question more surely than any quick hairstyle.

The first is the full routine, every seven to ten days. A short morning is the dividend of a Sunday well spent: a hair detangled with fingers, washed in two steps, coated by The Repair Mask, detangled with the Man Dol' Comb then dried after La Crème Coiffante styles in two minutes all week. No morning trick makes up for a month without a routine.

The second is the protective hairstyle. Twists, twists or flat braids hold for several days and transform the morning into a simple check in the mirror. Their duration depends on the extensions, the tension and the state of the scalp: without extensions, we stay on short durations, and a hairstyle that still pulls the next day is taken down without waiting. See our hairstyles without strands.

The third is the simplest: put away in the same place the scarf, the silk scrunchies, the clips and the jar of cream. The time lost in the morning is rarely styling.

What really wastes time

  • Spraying water every morning to rehydrate: the fiber becomes porous and demands more.
  • Passing the comb or brush over dry and bare hair.
  • Sleeping without protection: the knots of the morning cost more than five minutes in the evening.
  • Wetting your hair completely before leaving: they dry for hours.
  • Piling three products to make up for a poorly protected night.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should you spray water on your curly hair every morning?
No. Avoid wetting your hair every day: the fiber becomes more porous. Hydration is won at the full Rituel Texture®, every seven to ten days, and is then maintained with La Crème Coiffante and a night protection. On an area that pulls, a little cream warmed between the palms is enough, without water.
Can you detangle your hair in the morning?
With fingers, yes, and that's even the right step. Detangling with the Chadian finger is done with fingers and on dry hair: it's step 01 of the Rituel Texture®. What breaks is the comb passed over a dry and bare hair. The comb only comes at step 04, once the hair is coated with mask.
What is the fastest hairstyle on curly hair?
The silk scarf and the headband, in less than a minute. Then come the braids of the night kept as they are, then the puff. The fastest hairstyles are those that were prepared the day before.
How to protect your hair at night?
Undo the hairstyle of the day, put back a little of La Crème Coiffante on the ends, then make six tight braids on themselves, never at the root. Tie them with a silk scrunchie or tie a silk scarf, on a silk pillowcase.
