Kinky hair stylist in Nantes: 4 salons that are finally worth a call

“We style everyone’s hair, but not really this type of hair.” In Nantes, many have ended up giving up and styling it themselves for years. Four addresses are nevertheless worth remembering.

Three work with us: Maison Bis and Bouclettes, two partner salons trained in the Rituel Texture®, and La Belle Boucle’s Nantes studio. For maintenance between appointments, our step-by-step tutorial details the six steps. Outside Nantes, our directory of hairdressers for curly hair lists our partner salons.

What we look for in a salon

Before looking at a head of hair, I look at a posture. Many clients sit with their shoulders hunched up because a salon has already pulled too hard on their hair, or made them feel like it was the problem. That is why I start by sitting at their level and asking them to tell me their hair story. A salon that takes this time already knows more about your hair than a salon that starts at the backwash.

Hairdresser talking to a client with curly hair before a treatment
The appointment begins in the chair, with dry hair, before anyone touches anything.

A salon that welcomes curly textures is, first and foremost, a salon that knows its trade: cutting, coloring, styling. Specialization is built on top of this foundation, never in place of it. That is what separates a solid address from a storefront where “curly hair” was added because there was demand.

Knowledge of the subject then shows very quickly, and almost always in the same place: detangling. A hairdresser who is used to curly hair detangles with their fingers, on dry hair, in sections, and only then takes you to the backwash. One who is not familiar with it starts by wetting it, then attacks it with a fine-tooth comb, often without ill intent: that is what they were taught about a material that behaves the opposite way.

The location and the welcome matter just as much, even if they are harder to measure. A woman with curly hair should not have to settle for a service relegated to confidential addresses: she is entitled to the same level of welcome as any other client.

These are also the two criteria we use to choose our partner salons, and they are non-negotiable: mastery of the trade, and the quality of the location and the welcome. Our partners are already trained professionals, to whose expertise the know-how of Les Ateliers Crépus is added. In Nantes, this concerns Maison Bis, Bouclettes, and La Belle Boucle Studio. The fourth address is included here for its own commitments, listed on its website and booking page. For the general method, see our article on how to find a good hairdresser for curly hair.

Salon 1Maison Bis, Nantes and Saint-Herblain

15 quai Malakoff, 44000 Nantes and 15 boulevard Charles Gautier, 44800 Saint-Herblain

Maison Bis is one of our partner salons: a salon that already knew the trade and simply added our expertise to its own. Its team is among the salons trained in the Rituel Texture® in the region, along with the team at Bouclettes. The establishment also operates as a coworking space where independent professionals work under the same roof, which explains the breadth of the menu: cutting, coloring, plant-based coloring, barbering, children's services. You choose your professional at the time of booking, depending on your texture or the desired service, and you see the same person from one visit to the next.

The salon also states that it does not offer any chemical straightening treatments, a line we share. It is therefore the address we recommend first in Nantes, and especially to families looking for one place for everyone. You can ask for the Rituel Texture® there as it is practiced in the salon. We have an entire article dedicated to it: see our profile of Maison Bis, with the course of an appointment and up-to-date practical information.

Salon 2La Belle Boucle Studio, central Nantes

12 rue Jean-Jacques Rousseau, 44000 Nantes, Monday to Saturday

The Nantes studio is among our partner studios: our treatments are offered there, and we know how they work. It is a long-term partnership, not a seasonal listing. The brand is both a hair product boutique and a salon dedicated to textures, and its Nantes studio operates on the same model as the others: services are built around texture, from wavy hair to curly hair, and the appointment begins with a period of observation before anyone goes to the backwash.

Its particularity lies in the test zones: you can try the products on your own hair before buying them, which saves a lot for those who already have a shelf full of useless bottles. It is the address we recommend for a first appointment, when you do not yet know how to name what you need and want to leave with the right product rather than a list. We have dedicated a separate profile to the brand and its studios.

Salon 3Bouclettes, Copernic district

24 rue Racine, 44000 Nantes, Tuesday to Saturday

Bouclettes is one of our partner salons: the team followed our Rituel Texture® training and our Cut training in spring 2026, and our treatments are offered on site. It is, along with Maison Bis, the second Nantes address where the method was learned from us.

Bouclettes presents itself as a salon specializing in curly and textured hair, and clearly distinguishes its services for curly and coily hair from those intended for loose curls. This distinction, which may seem like a detail, actually determines the length of the reserved time slot: dense coily hair cannot be worked on in the time allotted for a wavy bob.

We recommend it if you wear your hair down and lose definition after two days, provided you specify your texture at the time of booking rather than letting them guess it. The salon takes appointments, and its calendar fills up several weeks in advance.

Salon 4L'Atelier Regent, Paul Bellamy

67 rue Paul Bellamy, 44000 Nantes

This fourth address has a different approach, stating that it works with curly, coily, and coily hair, and covering a wide range: cutting, coloring, lightening, lock maintenance, styling. It is one of the few Nantes addresses where a man with coily hair is offered something other than a clipper cut, and where lock maintenance is an identified service rather than a favor done from time to time.

We therefore recommend it for locks and for the men in the family. A clarification that must be given credit for, as it is displayed: the salon also offers straightening services, which we do not recommend for coily hair. Come there for a cut, color, or locks, and clearly state what you do not want at the time of booking. Appointments are made by phone.

Which one to choose, depending on what you’re looking for

These four addresses are serious; they simply serve different needs. Here is how we would decide in your place.

If you want the company's method, gestures and tools included, Maison Bis or Bouclettes: these are our two Nantes partner salons trained in the Rituel Texture®, the first for a broad menu and for families, the second if you wear your hair down and are looking for definition that lasts. If you want to understand your hair first and leave with the right product, La Belle Boucle Studio, our third partner on site. If you maintain locks, or if the appointment is for a man, L'Atelier Regent.

One last decision, valid everywhere: between two equally recommendable addresses, choose the one that asks the most questions before touching anything. It is the best indicator we have, and it only costs a phone call.

And if you are passing through Paris, know that the Rituel Texture® can also be experienced directly with us: the Les Ateliers Crépus Salon Experience is booked at the Les Ateliers Crépus location, in the 11th arrondissement, with the hair diagnosis followed by the six steps of the method.

Preparing for your appointment

Client with coily hair styled in a specialized Nantes salon
Three hours in the chair cannot be improvised: the duration should be asked about at the time of booking.

A lot of it comes down to the phone call, with three questions: how long is allotted for the service, is a diagnosis done before anyone touches the hair, and how does the salon detangle? The third one is the deciding factor. A salon that answers precisely on this point will rarely disappoint you on site.

Then arrive with your hair as it is, unless instructed otherwise by the salon. Washing and styling it the day before, out of politeness, amounts to hiding from the hairdresser what they need to see: the level of dryness, the true density, the way the fiber reacts when pulled. Plan for plenty of time, without an appointment right after: at a trained salon, a full Rituel Texture® takes two hours and fifteen minutes to three hours and fifteen minutes, depending on the styling and whether there is a cut.

Five answers that should make you hang up

  • “A little straightening first, we’ll see more clearly for the cut.”
  • “Come with washed hair, we’ll go straight into the cut.”
  • “Detangling? We do that at the backwash, as usual.”
  • “One hour should be enough,” for a treatment, a cut, and styling.
  • No questions about what you do at home between appointments.

On site, watch what they do. The amount of product applied to a single section is often enough to explain why the result does not last at home: we almost always put on too little. Note the order of the gestures, and ask why. That is what makes an appointment last instead of disappearing after the first wash, and it is also what allows you to reproduce the definition obtained in the salon with two hands instead of four.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a coily hair appointment cost in Nantes?
Each salon sets its own prices, and they depend mainly on length and density, that is, the time spent on your head. List what you want over the phone: diagnosis, treatment, cut, and styling are not always included in the same package.
Should I book well in advance?
Yes. Nantes salons that actually work with textures are often fully booked several weeks in advance, especially on Saturdays. Book early and, if possible, rebook as you leave: a salon is judged by the duration, when the hairdresser has remembered your texture and what you refuse.
Which of these salons work with Les Ateliers Crépus?
Three of them. Maison Bis, located on quai Malakoff and in Saint-Herblain, is one of our partner salons and is among the salons trained in the Rituel Texture®. Bouclettes, on rue Racine, is also trained in the Rituel Texture® and offers our treatments. La Belle Boucle Studio, on rue Jean-Jacques Rousseau, is among our partner studios, and our treatments are offered there. The fourth address on this page was selected for its own commitments. Our directory lists, city by city, the salons trained in the Rituel Texture®.
What is the difference with a salon that styles all textures?
The difference lies in the method and the training, rarely in the products. A trained salon starts with a diagnosis, detangles with the fingers on dry hair before the backwash, works in sections, and adapts each step to your fiber. See our article on hair diagnosis to know what should be asked of you.
Do these salons accept children?
Several of them do, notably Maison Bis and L'Atelier Regent. Mention it at the time of booking: the time slot is not the same, and the way of working is not either, because a child does not sit in a chair for three hours. Also see our steps to redo at home, in our curly hair routine for children.
How does a Nantes salon become a partner?
By following our professional training, open to hairdressers and provided in a Qualiopi-certified setting. We then choose the listed salons based on two non-negotiable criteria: mastery of the trade and the quality of the location and the welcome. If you prefer to experience the method directly with us, the Les Ateliers Crépus Salon Experience is booked in Paris, in the 11th.
